Perhaps you are coming here after watching the film 'The Passion of the Christ'. Did the film move you to think about your life? Perhaps you feel you want to know more about why Jesus died and what your response should be, if anything.
What can I say that might help you? You see, this is your life, your journey, and I do not presume to have the words you need to hear. But let me try briefly to explain what Jesus means to a Christian.
There is a God. He made us. He gave us our life. We were made to share eternal life in friendship with God; to share all the wonderful things of God. The Apostle Paul wrote:
Eye has not seen, nor has the ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart (or imagination) of a person, the things that God has prepared for those that love Him.1
In other words, the wonderful things that God has prepared for us to enjoy and experience with Him are currently beyond our comprehension. But note that it says, 'for those that love Him.'
Through our personal wrong-doing (sin) we have cut ourselves off from God. God is so Holy that he cannot allow anyone with sin in them to be in His presence. Most of us have sinned not just once, but multiple times, layer upon layer, either through our actions and words, or through our inaction and omissions. Through His word, The Bible, God tells us that the end result of our sin is death and complete separation from God and the wonderful things He has prepared for us to share with Him.
Of course, that means curtains for us all! Because we have all sinned, we've all done wrong.
